OAHS sponsors FAFSA completion workshop for Class of 2012
The Oxford Area High School Guidance Department and the Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency (PHEAA) will host a FAFSA completion workshop for members of the Class of 2012 and their parents/guardians on Wednesday, February 8 from 6 to 8 p.m. in the second floor computer rooms of the high school.
Students and/or parents may register through the High School Guidance office at 610-932-6646 or by e-mail to mhumphreys@oxford.k12.pa.us (Space is limited & advanced registration is required.)
FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) must be submitted in order to be considered for all types of post-secondary financial aid, including PHEAA state grants, institutional aid, and federal work-study. The FAFSA form is also used to determine eligibility for federal student loan programs.
FAFSA may only be submitted after January 1st. The FAFSA completion process involves the following steps:
1. Sign up for a PIN from the U.S. Department of Education. This will allow you to complete and sign the FAFSA online as well as access you financial aid information. Request a pin at http://www.pin.ed.gov YOU SHOULD DO THIS NOW. Your pin is your electronic signature, so student and parent need to each receive a pin.
2. Students can download a copy of the FAFSA worksheet from the studentaid.ed.gov website under the other publications link.
3. If you are attending, you will need to complete the “FAFSA on the Web” worksheet in advance to the best of your ability and bring completed 2010 taxes from parents and students if applicable. If your 2011 taxes are not complete you can estimate with the following: W-2s, 2010 taxes, last pay stub from 2011 using YTD figures. If you receive monthly income such as pension, SSI, or public assistance then you need to know the amount.
